Air Travel with Magnets
Magnets with most carriers are classed as dangerous goods under class 9 and therefore may be subject to additional charges or may be refused at a gateway due to safety concerns. As a magnet manufacturer, our magnets are packed to meet international guidelines set our by the likes of Australia Post, DHL Express and FedEx.
All of our magnets are able to be shipped by aircraft without regulations, in accordance with the IATA 57th edition chapter 3.9.2.2 and Packing Instruction PI 953 which applies to UN 2807; magnetised material on passenger and cargo aircraft where should accept:
- Permanent magnets, where possible, have keeper bars installed.
- The magnetic field strength at a distance of 4.6m (15ft) from any point on the surface of the assembled consignment:
- Does not exceed 0.418 A/m (0.00525 gauss), or
- Produces a magnetic compass deflection of 2 degrees or less.
- Devices such as magnetrons and light meters have been packed so that the polarities of the individual units oppose one another.
We have several standing agreements that allow us to freight magnets around the world such as;
- Australia Post/International couriers Terms & Conditions Part D – Prohibited Goods.
The goods have been packed in accordance with Appendix 3. - DHL Freight Terms and Conditions Section 7 – Dangerous Goods
The goods have been packed in a safe and contained manner in accordance with Class 9 requirements. - FedEx Conditions of Carriage Section 12.8 – Dangerous Goods Packaging Requirements
The goods have been packed in a safe and contained manner in accordance with Class 9 requirements.
These goods are not assessed a surcharge under UN 2807 – Conditions of carriage, section 12.4
