Magnetic Levitation
james2025-03-14T12:29:38+11:00Levitating magnets is a simple yet mesmerizing experiment, especially popular with kids in science classes.
In theory, all you need for levitation is two identical magnets positioned with like poles repelling each other. However, without physical restraints, the magnets will flip to align the opposite poles. The exact materials and setup will vary depending on the size, thickness, and strength of the magnets you use.
Disc magnets are commonly used for this fun experiment. Both ceramic and neodymium discs work well for demonstrating magnetic levitation. We recommend checking out some popular YouTube tutorials for tips and guidance on setting up this experiment. Alternatively you can use our high force magnetic strip in a length to levitate objects to show how magnetic poles repel.
It’s a great way to introduce students to the concept of magnetic forces and repulsion in an engaging, hands-on manner!
