Samarium Magnetic/Physical Properties

Samarium Magnets are commonly used in industries such as automotive, marine, and medical equipment due to their outstanding levels of corrosive resistance. These magnets are highly stable, offering excellent resistance to demagnetization and performing reliably across a wide range of temperatures due to their high temperature tolerance.

While Neodymium Magnets are widely known for their superior magnetic strength, Samarium Magnets excel in high-temperature environments. They are a preferred choice, along with Alnico Magnets, for engineers working on aircraft and spacecraft designs due to their reliability under extreme conditions.

Samarium Magnets are commonly used in applications where other magnets would lose their magnetism under extreme heat conditions. These environments often involve significant temperature levels, as seen in aerospace applications. Precision is a key factor in such uses, and disc or cylinder magnets are often chosen for their more focused magnetic fields.

Due to their brittle nature, Samarium Magnets must be handled with care. Like Neodymium magnets, they are susceptible to chipping or shattering if they collide with significant force however, Samarium’s are even more susceptible to chipping as they are a raw magnet with no protection. This is why they are frequently integrated into products, equipment, or furniture rather than used as standalone magnets.

When using magnets to join components, such as in rolling cabinets, selecting the right magnetic strength is critical. While a Neodymium magnet offers a small but powerful magnetic field, an overly strong magnet can make it difficult to separate the parts. Samarium Magnets, with their larger size, generate a broader magnetic field, providing a more user-friendly experience. This allows for easier disassembly and reassembly without needing exact alignment, creating a secure hold without excessive force.
