What is the best magnet for attaching spice jars to a metal wall or fridge?
james2025-03-14T12:30:59+11:00With the wide variety of spice jar designs and sizes available, it can be challenging for our team to recommend the best magnetic solution for each customer’s specific needs. Here are some key points to consider when selecting the right magnet for your application:
- Weight of the Jar: Take into account the total weight of the filled jar when determining the required magnet strength.
- Surface Type: High-gloss vertical surfaces may require a stronger magnetic adhesion to compensate for reduced friction, which can cause jars to slide down.
- Steel Thickness: Consider the thickness of the steel the magnet will attach to. Our magnets are tested against 10mm thick steel, which allows for complete saturation of the magnetic field.
- Ferrous Material Check: Ensure that the surface you plan to attach the magnet to is indeed ferrous. Some types of stainless steel are non-ferrous, meaning magnets will not adhere.
- Self-Adhesive Neodymium Magnets: Many customers have successfully used our self-adhesive Neodymium magnets (please see the note below regarding adhesive).
- Jar Bottoms: Since many jars do not have flat bottoms, self-adhesive-backed magnets may not adhere sufficiently. In such cases, an additional adhesive, such as glue or silicone, might be necessary.
If using our VHB backed adhesive, ensure you allow a minimum of 4 hours once applied for the adhesive to properly bond to the objects surface before placing it on a ferrous surface
