Will the magnetic tape work with a layer between the tape?

Anything that comes between magnets or magnetic tape and the ferrous surface they adhere to will reduce the magnetic bond.

When two magnetic surfaces are not in full contact, an “air gap” forms, weakening the connection. In some cases, a cloth or plastic layer may be intentionally placed between surfaces to protect painted metal or to slightly reduce the bond, making the magnet easier to remove and reposition.

In other situations, magnetic tape is ideal for temporarily suspending signs or artwork, as its flexibility allows for easy removal and replacement.
